Pour fêter la fin de primaire de nos filles, une amie et moi leur avons fait la surprise de les emmener à Venise. Nous sommes partie 4 jours fin juin, et nous avions décidées de prendre un Airbnb plutôt qu'un hôtel. Il était très bien placé (quartier Cannaregio), situé dans une petite cour adorable, 2 chambres, très mignon mais si vous aimez le moderne, clairement passez votre chemin!!
Si vous préférez un hôtel, on m'avait conseillé l'Aqua Palace, il parait qu'il est très bien.
To celebrate the end of our daughters' primary school, a friend and I surprised them by taking them to Venice. We went there for 4 days at the end of June, and decided to take an Airbnb rather than a hotel. It was very well located (in the Cannaregio district), in a pretty little courtyard, 2 rooms, very cute but if you like modern, clearly go the other way!
If you prefer a hotel, I was recommended the Aqua Palace, which I've heard is very good.
Venise est divisé en six quartiers, il est donc très facile de se repérer.
Pour se déplacer, pas de voiture évidemment, mais le vaporetto, l’équivalent de notre bon vieux bus! C’est tres simple, assez rapide et tellement insolite! Dépaysement immédiat!
Venice is divided into six districts, so it's easy to find your way around.
To get around, you don't need a car, of course, but the vaporetto, the equivalent of our good old bus! It's so simple, so fast and so unusual! An instant change of scenery!

- Monter en haut du Campanile histoire d’admirer Venise (99 mètres)
- La Basilica di San Marco et sa fameuse place
- Le Palazzo Ducale et le pont des soupirs
- Théatre La Fenice
- Faire évidemment une balade en gondole!
- Ponte di Rialto (l'unique liaison entre les 2 rives)
- Les iles de Murano et Burano (voir plus bas)

WHAT TO DO :
- Climb to the top of the Campanile to admire Venice (99 metres)
- Saint Mark's Basilica and its famous square
- The Ducal Palace and the Bridge of Sighs

- And, of course, a gondola ride!
- The Ponte di Rialto (the only link between the two banks of the river)
- The islands of Murano and Burano (see below)

Pour prendre un peu le large, rien de tel qu'une petite escapade sur l'ile de Burano, avec ses mignonnes maisons colorées. L'histoire raconte que les pêcheurs peignaient leur maison d'une couleur vive pour la repérer en cas de brume. C'est vraiment très très très joli!
Il y a aussi l'ile de Murano, célèbre pour sa verrerie, mais nous n'avons malheureusement pas eu le temps d'y aller.
If you want to get away from it all, there's nothing like a trip to the island of Burano, with its pretty, colourful houses. The story goes that the fishermen painted their houses in bright colours so that they could be seen in the fog. It's really, really, really pretty!
There's also the island of Murano, famous for its glassworks, but unfortunately we didn't have time to go there.
Où et que manger? (et boire!!)
Les spécialités vénitiennes sont sans contestes les cicchetti (tapas vénitiens). Vous en trouverez un peu partout, et les accompagner d'un Bellini, mamamia, rien de tel!
Le Bellini est un alcool crée par un Vénitien (le fondateur du fameux Harry's bar). ATTENTION : si vous avez envie d'aller déguster ce cocktail dans cette institution, préparez vous à payer EXCESSIVEMENT cher!! Donc mon conseil, allez ailleurs, ça fera très bien l'affaire, le Bellini est délicieux partout ;-)
Les tramezzini également sont de délicieux petits sandwichs sans croute qu'on mange surtout au petit déjeuner. Si vous aimez manger salé, n'hésitez donc pas!
Les zalleti, cookies vénitiens, sont considérés comme porte-bonheur! Donc on oublie le régime et on fait péter les calories!!
Et puis, il y a bien évidemment le Tiramisu, le carpaccio et le risotto à l'encre de seiche.

Where and what to eat (and drink!!)
The Venetian specialities are undoubtedly the cicchetti (Venetian tapas). You can find them just about everywhere, and to accompany them with a Bellini, mamamia, there's nothing like it!
Bellini is a spirit created by a Venetian (the founder of the famous Harry's bar). WARNING: if you want to try this cocktail in this institution, be prepared to pay an EXCESSIVELY high price! I'd advise you to look elsewhere, as Bellini is delicious everywhere ;-)
Tramezzini are also delicious little sandwiches with no crust, eaten mainly for breakfast. So if you like it savoury, go for it!
Zalleti, Venetian biscuits, are considered good luck! So forget your diet and let the calories fly!
And then, of course, there's Tiramisu, carpaccio and squid ink risotto.
